Cor Madrigal

It was founded by Manuel Cabero in 1951. In 1993, Mireia Barrera took over its management and in September 2019, Pere Lluís Biosca succeeded her as conductor. The choir’s activity focuses on the interpretation of contemporary repertoire, showing a special interest in the dissemination of Catalan authors. At the same time, he tackles works for choir and orchestra from the Baroque and Classical periods.

The Cor Madrigal has been conducted by great musicians such as Celibidache, Comissiona, Cambreling, Cao, McCreesh, Decker, Foster, King, Mas, Mena, Pablo Pérez, Pinnock, Pons, Oué, Ros Marbà, Rostropovitx, Scimone and Vicent. During the period that Manuel Cabero was in front, the Cor Madrigal sang in the world premiere of Falla’s Atlantis and in the first audition in Spain of Mozart’s Missa Solemnis.

In the recording field, the recording of Joaquim Homs’ choral music, on the occasion of the centenary of his birth, made for the SGAE Author Foundation (2007) should be highlighted.

At the Gran Teatre del Liceu he has participated in the productions of the operas Kàtia Kavànova by Janácek, Oedipe by Enesco, Le portrait de Manon by Massenet and Les mammelles by Tirésias de Poulenc, and the cantata La Pesta by Gerhard. The Cor Madrigal has collaborated with the artist Perejaume on the occasion of Verdaguer’s birthday, the Amidament exhibition by Joan Coromines and the opening of the Pessebre Sert exhibition at the Miró Foundation, as well as with the IT Dansa Company that directed by Catherine Allard.

In recent seasons, the tours to Euzkadi and Andalusia with the Seville Baroque Orchestra (Häendel’s Messiah and Bach’s Mass in B minor), with the Galicia Symphony Orchestra in La Coruña and Lisbon (Mendelssohn’s Lobgesang) and with I Solisti Veneti, and the performances at the Ancient Music Festivals of Barcelona and Aranjuez, the ibercamera Cycle at the Palau de la Música and the UAM’s Great Performers Cycle at the Auditorio Nacional in Madrid.

In the 2011-2012 season, the choir began an artistic residency at the Vilafranca Municipal Auditorium. Since the 2012-13 season, he has been a resident choir of the Barcelona Symphony Orchestra and Auditorium.

The Cor Madrigal has the collaboration of the Catalan Institute of Cultural Industries.
