Elisenda Carrasco began her musical studies at the Conservatory of Music in Barcelona, where she completed diplomas in Composition and Instrumentation and Orchestra Conducting, as well as a diploma in Music Teaching, specialising in Choral Singing. In the field of conducting, she has trained with S. Johnson, L. Heltay, J. Prats, P. Cao, H. Rilling and F. Bernius. She has also studied with G. Hollerung and J. Frihsmund in Germany, as part of a grant offered by Musica Mundi. She has worked in music teaching for over 30 years, mainly working with children’s choirs. In this area, her work at Escolania de Montserrat and the Liceu Music Conservatory in Barcelona is particularly noteworthy.
She has been invited to give choral workshops by Europe Cantat and Arbeitskreis Musik in der Jugend on several occasions. Carrasco has also been invited to Venezuela, through the Schola Cantorum of Caracas and the FESNOJIV, to teach conducting and offer workshops for children. For more than fifteen years she has been the musical director of the Opera in Secondary School project, which is jointly organised by the Liceu Opera House and the JONC (Young National Orchestra of Catalonia). For seventeen years she was the artistic and musical director of the Children’s Choir of the Orfeó Català at the Palau de la Música in Barcelona. For four seasons, she has conducted the mixed voice choir Lieder Cámera.
She is co-conductor of the Cantània programme at the Auditori in Barcelona, where she also regularly collaborates with other musical projects linked to the OBC. She teaches a Choral Ensemble course at ESMUC and conducts the Sant Cugat Children’s Choir, the Cor Canta and the Voxalba Women’s Choir.
