We present the 1st Summer Choral Conducting Course to be held in Barcelona in July 2019.
For the first time, the FCEC and the SCIC add up efforts to create a course that is based on two main ideas. First of all, creating a framework that is different from that of regular courses that both federations have been implementing for years: a summer course and intensive format that offer a new training space for people with experience in choir conduction. And secondly, adding resources to create a course of transversal direction, a course where each student will be able to choose their specialty and level but that will also offer joint sessions that seek to expand training in all directions and in diversity typical of the choral world. A third collaborator, the ESMUC, is added, which will allow the development of training sessions in areas and conditions that are unbeatable.
The course offers two levels focused on the conduction of a mixed choir and a level focused on children’s choir conduction. All three groups will have a pilot choir and daily accompanying pianist and with first-class teachers such as Elisenda Carrasco, Josep Vila i Casañas, Pere Lluís Biosca and Jordi Lluch. The joint sessions also feature great names such as Bernat Vivancos, the Cor de Noies de l’Orfeó Català and the Cor Francesc Valls. And finally, the course presents a program of short concerts in the evenings that aims to complete the training with a very diverse program where you can hear all types of choirs: children’s choir, mixed choir (amateur), choir of girls and even a professional choir.
Parallel to this structure, the ESMUC offers an initial level children’s choir itinerary, for Primary and Secondary School teachers with tools to use choral singing in the classroom. The choir conduction professors will be Gemma Tatay and Jaume Sala with the collaboration of specialists in the field of education. Students will also be able to participate in the joint sessions and concerts. If you are interested in this itinerary you should visit www.esmuc.cat for more information.
We hope that this new course will be an impulse for the training of conductors and that this will benefit the general outlook of choral singing.
From Friday 5th to Monday 8th July 2019. Four intensive days with a specific program depending on the level and specialty (children’s or adult choir) chosen.
The course will take place at the ESMUC (Escola Superior de Música de Catalunya), L’Auditori Building, C/Padilla 155, 08013 Barcelona.
